What is the Kaisa Project?
Online streamers have an outsized potential to reduce sexual assault.
With over 97% of young boys watching streamers or gaming with friends, these communities have become a powerful new way for them to learn, connect, and form opinions about the world.
We believe gaming communities strongly shape young boys' attitudes — attitudes that impact young girls and women, online and IRL. Given the known link between attitudes toward sexual violence and its perpetration, unhealthy gaming communities may reinforce beliefs tied to a greater risk of real-world sexual assault, harassment, and unhealthy beliefs around masculinity.
Streamers have something sports and TV role models don't: direct, ongoing communication with their audience. This gives them outsized influence over attitudes and behavior within their communities.
By leveraging the authentic connection between streamers and their communities, we aim to normalize these conversations in a space that has historically avoided these topics.
